This is a gorgeous antique volume from 1897, titled A Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents, Volume III, edited by James D. Richardson and published by the Bureau of National Literature, New York.
Bound in a sturdy black embossed hardcover with gold gilt detailing — complete with the presidential seal on the cover and decorative spine. The pages have a light golden hue along the edges, and there’s a beautiful color plate of the Treasury Building inside.
This book contains official speeches, letters, and documents from early U.S. Presidents, compiled under direction of Congress. It’s Volume III of the historic multi-volume set, covering pages 965–1465.
Condition is very good for its age — strong binding, clean pages, and just a little rubbing on the spine edges (see photos). It displays beautifully on a shelf and makes a great gift for anyone who loves American history, presidential memorabilia, or antique government publications.
