Here is a great item for a collector. It's a silver Football medal made by Vaughton & Sons of Birmingham, the markings show that it was actually made in 1913, but engraved for 1916-17. This was presented a player of the '3rd Devons' the Third Devonshire Regiment, who were a unit made up of civilians with military experience, and were solely based at home and saw no overseas action, during 1916-17 this unit of the Devonshire Regiment, among other things, were tasked with coastal protection. This is a runners-up medal for an Inter-Army Unit Football Cup, which was held during the Great War, which is most unusual as barely any Football was played during the WW1 years. I am unsure who the other finalists were, most likely an Army unit that had returned from the battle or had yet to be deployed. The medal is in superb condition for it's age, and would appeal to enthusiasts of the beautiful game, or historians of the Devonshire Regiment.
