Among the finest known proof "War Nickels," this example exudes fresh mint luster through mostly-brilliant toning and is a member of the only proof nickel to be comprised of any amount of silver.
Conditionally scarce, fewer than a few dozen examples can speak for the entire proof mintage of just under 30k pieces reaching the lofty grade, nearing perfection, of Proof-68, which NGC has bestowed on this particular specimen.
At WWII's onset, the Mint needed to support the war effort by altering the composition of some coins, thus giving rise to the Silver War Nickels until war's end!
This coin will forever tell a lasting story, which, to me, further guarantees its monetary appreciation more than anything.
