Now switching countries and continents, we have a small round box, a cylinder carved from ivory, and sporting a lid adorned with an elephant statue. A parade of elephants is carved into the sides of the vessel. Inside the box are several carved African animals, making me suspect that this piece was meant to be a children’s toy. It does appear to be of fairly sturdy build. There is one small split in the ivory, readily visible along the base of the box. It does not compromise the structural integrity of the piece, and does not detract visually from its aesthetics.
