In 1890, the Springer Torsion Balance Co. boasted that the Style 254 was a very handsome and accurate Counter Scale that was nickel-plated throughout, that could be loaded with 20 pounds, that was sensitive to 2 grains, and that cost $30. In 1920, the Torsion Balance Co. noted that Style 254 was “Extensively used for heavy routine work in colleges and industrial plants.” At that time it had a capacity of 10 pounds, and was sensitive to 3 grains.
This scale weighs 24.4 pounds. Dimensions are approximately 16” x 9” x 7 1/2” in height. This scale has not been tested for accuracy.
Awesome antique piece! This scale was marketed for the apothecary industry between 1890 and 1920.
