This is truly a unique piece-carved from soapstone. This Nomali figure is found in the Kissi territory of Sierra Leone. It is believed if placed under houses to attract a good harvest and keep away evil spirits.
Their age is uncertain, but evidence suggests they predate the 15th and 16th centuries.
They are considered among the earliest forms of art from the West African region.
