Made in 1977, this 10 1/4" plate is first in the series and titled "Beneath the Plum Branch." In this piece of Japanese art, a group of young boys are playing soldiers in the garden. Each plate has a haiku poetry describing the action on the plate. The haiku on this plate is "Beneath the plum branch, Small soldiers march to glory, Till their mothers call."
