Exploring Western Civilization To 1648: A Worktext For The Active Student

The present is part of a chain of events that links the past and the future. Since we can not explore the future, it is only by studying the past that we can try to understand the present and, maybe, discern a glimmer of what is to come.


Exploring Western Civilization to 1648 explores the evolution of Western Civilization from its origins to 1648, the end of the Wars of Religion engendered by the Reformation. The companion text, Exploring Western Civilization 1600 to the Present, examines the modern period of Western Civilization from 1600 to the present, and illustrates how Western Civilization has helped to fuel a new world civilization of the twenty-first century.


These texts, by Thomas J. Kehoe, Harold E. Damerow, and Jose M. Duvall, are designed for the college freshman, and presented in a readable format. They can serve as the core texts in a traditional two-semester Western Civilization course, or as a supplement to a Western Civilization or Humanities/Culture course.
