These 1950s overalls feature a "safe deposit pocket," patented on April 18, 1939, after being applied for on November 24, 1936, but only put into practical use after the war. The large pocket is located inside the zipper in the center of the bib. Advertisements at the time boasted that it "reduces damage and loss of contents, and protects from dirt." These are low-back overalls with suspenders that are elasticated for ease of movement. This special model features a very rare red zipper tape, which is seen in less than 10% of cases, instead of the usual navy zipper tape.

This is a brand of the Learned Carter company, which started in the early 1900s and existed until the 1960s. It is evident that they were particular about their products, as they were unusual for the time in that they handled everything from weaving the fabric to sewing the garments in-house. As the trademark on the label and flasher indicates, they were favored and supplied to railroad workers and engineers. This rare item, highly sought after by collectors even today and difficult to obtain, is being revived for the modern era.
