A gorgeous, one of a kind, piece of art from Indonesia. Featuring Indonesian/Javanese "wayang kulit," or shadow puppets. This artwork is called "Untung Surapati" with the initials "C.V." - possibly the artist?

Surapati was an Indonesian war fighter who led rebellions against the Dutch East India Company.

This artwork is hand-painted and hand-crafted. The paints are put onto the hide canvas, which is outlined and detailed with hand-pierced holes. The hide is stretched and encased in an intricate wooden frame and sewn in place with leather strips.

look closely, you can see the individual holes which creates a beautiful see through piece of art, with the illusion of delicateness. Amazing craftsmanship and skill was used to create this.

This comes from the small neighborhood of Penumping, in Surakarta City, Indonesia.

Amazing condition.
Measures 15" wide x 19" tall.
