Joe Light Painted Fish Colorblock Art

Joe Louis Light (1934-2005) lived in Memphis most of his adult life, and after a religious awakening, followed Old Testament practices and beliefs, referring to himself as a "black man of the Jewish faith". He worked in two- and three-dimensional media, and for years maintained an outdoor environment on his property, displaying paintings, sculpture, and his hand-lettered signs expressing often controversial opinions. His work has been exhibited in many museum shows, including Passionate Visions(New Orleans M. of Art), and Coming Home (University of Memphis).

This original work of art is hand painted and signed by the artist. It is dated 11-21-97 and measures approximately 13” long x 6.5” wide. The medium is a metal serving dish, which is painted white with green trim. The fish painted red with a green head and fins, and blue and yellow scales. The piece is in good vintage condition. There is some faint writing on the back which I have not attempted to remove.
