This rare book is a fascinating document! The author was the wife of an American missionary who served many years in Columbia. Maude employed many Columbian servants during these years and knew many others hired by other missionaries. She decided to write this book describing the servants, their families, homes, challenges, and admirable qualities. It is not a book about missions or Columbian politics, she writes, but about some average Columbian peasants she grew to live. She hoped that their stories would help Americans to better understand the people of Latin America. This is a very rare title!
