This stunning African copal amber trade bead necklace is comprised of beads measuring between 10 and 15 mm. The overall length is 30”, and the clasp is .925 silver.
From the 1940s-70s, African copal amber trade bead necklaces would arrive on US shores, expertly strung with rough cord, and equipped with brass clamshell Calotte bead tips. Importers here would finish the pieces with their choice of clasps. The vast majority of these originated in Mali and Nigeria.
Included in the photos is the UV light test, confirming copal (bright green to slight orange fluorescence). I also acid tested the clasp, and the positive 925 result is also there, although I could not find a hallmark.
It is absolutely beautiful, and I hate to see it go. Fast shipping from Florida!
