The QNAP TL-D400S-US is a four bay JBOD storage enclosure that gives you a straightforward way to add more disks to a QNAP NAS, a Windows workstation, or an Ubuntu server. Inside the metal chassis you will find four trays that accept either 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA drives, each running at up to 6 Gb/s, so the enclosure can keep up with demanding read and write workloads.

Connection to the host is handled through an SFF-8088 or SFF-8644 cable that links to the included QXP PCIe card. This direct cable connection keeps latency low and bandwidth high, which is useful when you are moving large media files, backing up virtual machines, or working with data-intensive applications.

Storage management works the way you prefer. In QTS or QuTS hero you can build RAID 0, 1, or 5 volumes, or you can leave each disk independent if you only want raw capacity. On Windows and Ubuntu systems the free QNAP JBOD Manager monitors disk health and enclosure temperature, so you always know the status of your drives.

Lockable drive trays deter casual tampering in shared offices, while typical power draw stays around 23 W, a level that fits well in small studios, production rooms, and home labs that run around the clock.
