HISTORY ASPECTS -
The Sd.Kfz. 234/3 "Stummel" was a variant of the eight-wheeled Sd.Kfz. 234 armored car series, designed to provide fire support for reconnaissance units. Unlike the Puma, which was armed with an anti-tank , the 234/3 was equipped with a short-barreled 75mm K51 L/24 , a derived from the StuG III assault . This modification allowed the vehicle to engage enemy infantry, soft-skinned vehicles, and fortified positions, making it a valuable asset in both offensive and defensive operations.
By March 1945, the 1st Panzer Division deployed the Sd.Kfz. 234/3 during the fierce battles in Hungary. As the German Army attempted to slow the Soviet advance, the "Stummel" was used in both reconnaissance and rearguard actions. Its firepower was particularly useful in urban combat and ambush tactics, where its mobility allowed it to strike quickly and retreat before being overwhelmed. However, by this stage of the , the German forces were heavily outnumbered and outned, making every engagement a desperate attempt to delay the inevitable Soviet push tod Germany.
The battle for Hungary was one of the last major confrontations involving German armored forces, and the Sd.Kfz. 234/3 saw action in the failed attempt to relieve Budapest. While its firepower gave it an advantage over standard reconnaissance vehicles, the "Stummel" was not designed to face heavily armored Soviet tanks, limiting its effectiveness in open battle. Many of these vehicles were lost in combat, abandoned due to fuel shortages, or captured by advancing Red Army forces.
This 1 - 72 scale model offers an authentic recreation of the battle-worn armored car used in Hungary in 1945.
