This second edition of Trees and Shrubs of Colorado (2006) is more comprehensive than the first, published in 1988. The number of woody plants described has been doubled to 295 species, with the keys and descriptions rewritten and scientific names updated. This is a field guide.

Jack L. Carter (1929-2020), was a professor in the Biology department at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. He remained there for 22 years where the herbarium was later named in his honor. This copy is signed by Professor Carter.

Marjorie Leggitt is a freelance science illustrator specializing in contemporary botanical and natural science art for educational and commercial markets.
