Vaillancourt Folk Art of Sutton, MA, founded in 1984 is known and collected world-wide due to the quality and detailed workmanship. The chalk ware figures are hand casted using chocolate molds, hand-painted with artisan oil paints and glaze. This adorable snowman is topped with black stovepipe hat with real wood twig arms. A 'winter season' snowman #163, one of the first snowmen designs, is #2182 in production 1991; registered trademark copyright 1986. A charming piece for a collection or the start of a collection to pass on to the next generation.
An estate private collection, in very good condition. Note his shadow smile, which is unusual for Vaillancourt's craftsmanship. Two brush misses: one on the right side of his top had and one on the second layer snowball on back (visible with very close study); minor and do not distract from the charm.
