Vintage Brooch (Czech)

One of the most unusual vintage items I've ever seen. Purchased from a 86 year old woman in Lancaster PA, she mentioned she didn't remember much about it, but she's had it for many years. It has three components - the top piece is hand engraved glass (or crystal, I'm not certain) on the outside and hand engraved and hand painted on the underside. Beneath that is a thin layer of mother of pearl, then the base which is 14 or 18 karat white gold and clearly hand tooled. 1 jeweler who looked at the item suggested it was from the early 1940's. I have done extensive research on the internet and have been unable to find another item like it anywhere. It really is a remarkable piece that has to be seen to be appreciated. Whoever made it was some kind of craftsman for sure. The only markings on it is 'Czechoslovakia' engraved on the pin itself.
