The ruling was issued by Judge Thomas P. Griesa after a four-day trial of the dispute in Federal District Court in Manhattan. The judge said he would hold a hearing on the final disposition of Harcourt's $65,000 advance payment for the rejected manuscript.
Judge Griesa noted that the manuscript of Senator Goldwater's memoirs, which Harcourt rejected in 1978, was published in revised form a year later by William Morrow & Company
