AUTHENTIC HI-LO aka a TRANSITIONAL Point, so called because it’s transitional between fluted points & hafted points. Its provenance is Ex-Banks - Darke County, Ohio. Point dates to 8,500-8,000 B.C. It’s made out of a darker variant of Harrison County Chert (aka Indiana Hornstone). This type of chert knapps extremely well. Point measures approx 1.14” in length. It has a waxy & vitreous luster. It was very popular due to extensive trading during Paleo times & was thought to be used for butchering, knives & as a projectile point. Qualities of this particular point include: weak shoulders, heavy grinding in the “base” & stem areas, both percussion & pressure flaking, an almost side notched appearance which is somewhat rare for this point type, & a short stem. In terms of condition, this hi-lo is in excellent shape. The PATINA, especially in the basal area is OUTSTANDING. There are no cracks, breaks, no significant re-sharpening & no major chips. Please ask ? & see all photos. Thank you!
