This is a set of four Old Mill Cigarette Silks. They feature Frances Starr & Maude Laubert.
Old Mill cigarette silks were collectible fabric inserts produced by the American Tobacco Company in the early 1900s. These small, premium items were folded and placed in cigarette packs to encourage brand loyalty, a common marketing tactic of the era.
While called "silks," they were actually made from various fabrics, including silk, silk satin, cotton-silk blends, or sateen. The fad for tobacco silks was between 1910 and 1916. Old Mill issued its silks around 1910 and 1911, and the practice largely ceased with the outbreak of World War I.
Old Mill silks featured a range of colorful subjects, these feature actresses: A very popular series depicted vaudeville actresses of the time, such as Billie Burke, who later played Glinda the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz.Some of the famous actresses featured on Old Mill cigarette silks included stars of vaudeville and the early silent film era.
