Ca 1899 Five Weeks in a Balloon by Jules Verne, Antique Book, William L. Allison

This early American edition of Jules Verne’s Five Weeks in a Balloon tells the adventurous tale of three Englishmen journeying across Africa by hydrogen balloon. Rich in geography, satire, and speculative technology, it was Verne’s first published novel—setting the stage for his imaginative, scientifically-rooted style that made him a literary pioneer of science fiction. Book is undated and the date is estimated based on the years the publisher was in business.

Overall fair to good condition for its age:

• Cover: marks and wear at edges and corners (bumped)
• Spine: marks and wear at ends
• Pages: overall good condition with some age marks, folded corners and small tears. Most pages are clean though darkened. Title page is taped in the back
• Edges: age marks and darkening. Gold finish on top edge with wear
• Binding: a bit shifted
